22/03/2017

Andreas Aurich and Norbert Kohlheb, as members of the department “Environmental Biotechnology Center (UBZ)” at the UFZ have participated in the Bioeconomy Matchmaking “From molecule to market” in Halle, Germany on 7.3.2017.

Andreas Aurich presented a summary on yeast-based bioprocesses for various organic acids (e.g. citrate, fumarate, isocitrate, succinate) developed by the UFZ. He gave an overview on projects currently implemented by the UBZ, i.e. the INCOVER project (value added use of waste streams) and the CoKult project (co-cultivation of algae and yeast for bio-products).

Norbert Kohlheb gave a presentation on the potentials and challenges of life-cycle sustainability assessment (LCSA) of biotechnology processes and biotechnological products. The presentation dealt in particular with the special merits and problems of using LCSA in the early stages of developing and establishing recycling, production and reuse processes in the bioeconomy.
