European FOG summit in Amsterdam

04/03/2019

On the 6th of March, Barbara Anton, from ICLEI, will attend the European FOG summit in Amsterdam.

The European FOG Summit is an initiative from SwiftComply, in cooperation with Stichting Waternet and co-funded by the European Union (H2020).

Fat, oil and grease (FOG) creates major problems in wastewater collection networks. A by-product of food production, FOG is estimated to be the root cause of 50-75% of all in-line sewer blockages. As sewer networks come under increasing pressure from growing populations and the proliferation of food service establishments, new ways of managing FOG must be developed to safeguard the long-term sustainability of our urban communities.

The European FOG summit will cover the entire FOG lifecycle: from the kitchens to the final recycling plant, and will provide a fantastic learning experience. This summit will showcase the latest achievements in industry led research, communication and application of technologies.

The speakers represent food service establishments, grease managers, the public water and sewer industry, academia, and more. Barbara Anton, from ICLEI will participate in the panel entitled: “Zero Waste by 2020: Resource Recovery for a more Circular City”.
