2^nd INCOVER Innovation Workshop - Wednesday 27 February 2019

The 2^nd Innovation Workshop was successfully delivered by ISLE (Isle Utilities) with support of Aqualia and hosted by Chiclana Natural at their offices in Chiclana de la Frontera, Spain.

For the second time, the Innovation Workshop brought together end-user organisations, specifically water companies, from across Europe and connected them directly with INCOVER technology partners.

During the morning of the Chiclana Innovation Workshop, six selected technologies from case study 1 and 2 were presented to the water companies in attendance, followed by lively discussions including potential future collaboration and feedback for the technology development and market strategies.

The afternoon session of the Innovation Workshop was a site visit to El Torno WWTP in Chiclana, where case study 2 is implemented.

Case study 2 summary – El Torno WWTP, Chiclana

PHA (bioplastic) is produced through two stage anaerobic phototrophic purple bacteria ponds obtaining up to 25g PHA/m²day. Two 500 m² High Rate Algae Ponds treat wastewater and algae biomass used is harvested and transformed into biogas through thermal pre-treatment and anaerobic co-digestion. Biomethane is then produced by an innovative biogas upgrading system.  A 250 m² evaporative planted system is used for the digestate stabilisation and nutrient recovery with zero liquid discharge.
