Case-study 2 video - Resources recovery from wastewater

In February 2019, participants in the second innovation workshop in Chiclana visited El Torno wastewater treatment plant.

On this pilot plant, several technologies are developed and optimised to recover energy and bioproducts from wastewater. Phototrophic Purple Bacteria Ponds are used for PHA (bioplastics) production. An innovative biogas upgrading systems permits to purify the biogas produced and an evaporative system is used for digestate stabilization and nutrient recovery.
